Personal finance is more personal than it is finance.
Financial decisions can send ripples through our lives, and many of the choices we make in life have financial implications. That's why we need this place to explore the intersection of money and life.
Every week, you'll receive an informal newsletter directly from me in your email inbox that, in addition to bringing you up to speed on what's going on in the financial world, will give you key insight into how to apply financial wisdom in your everyday life—and a Quote O’ the Week that I hope will challenge and inspire us, too.
But it’s not just explicitly “financial” wisdom that I hope you’ll glean from The Net Worthwhile® Weekly, because we believe the world “wealth” has come to mean far too little in the modern age.
At the very least, wealth certainly isn’t just your money. You’ll see us expand the definition to include four other resources that I’d argue are even more valuable than our tangible assets, using the acronym TIMER:
Time
Influence
Money
Energy
Relationships
Money matters, and we’ll spend plenty of time offering insight into how you can better manage it, but you’ll also receive guidance on being an optimal steward of your time (once it’s gone, it’s gone), influence (a reputation takes a lifetime to build but a moment to destroy), energy (you can’t buy health, but you can invest in it), and relationships (because what good is wealth if you have no one to share it with).
Our goal, then, isn’t just to help you acquire these helpful resources, but to activate your wealth:
Wealth Activation = Resources x Purpose
Then, I’ll send one simple weekly post to your inbox, usually at 7:00am on Sunday morning, that I hope is timeless wisdom that you can apply in a timely fashion.
BTW, HERE is a helpful guide on How To Activate Your Wealth, a great starting point if you’re new to the FLiP community.
WHO AM I?
My name is Tim Maurer, and I’m a husband to one, a father to three, and a 28-year veteran of the personal finance landscape.
Over the first five years of my career in the financial industry, I was struck with how ineffective the financial planning process was. The industry was speaking one language and its clients were speaking another.
That's why I've spent the past 22 years looking for more effective ways to learn and teach sound financial decision-making. I've learned that personal finance is more personal than finance--a scientific fact proven by the fields of behavioral economics, finance, and science.
Therefore, I spend my time proportionately, at the intersection of money and life.
Tim Maurer, CFP®, RLP®
Advisor | Speaker | Author
I do this as:
Chief Advisory Officer for SignatureFD
A member of the CNBC Advisor Council
A contributor to Forbes
The author of Simple Money: A No-Nonsense Guide to Personal Finance
And then I send you the best of what I'm learning and teaching in the Financial Life Planning weekly letter.
The problem with so much personal finance advice is that it’s unnecessarily complicated, often with the goal of selling you things you don’t need. Tim Maurer never plays that game. His straightforward, candid and yes — simple — prescriptions are always right on target.
